Song Notes: Your Philosophy

Peter talks about the lyrics:
"There is more in heaven and earth than is dreamt in your philosophy." That is a great line that I stole from an old ghost story. It seems to sum up my experience in the punk movement nicely. In that time I was introduced to all sorts of new ideas and experiences that challenged all my preconceived notions. And just like the ghost story there was jealousy, revenge, madness, pondering on the meaning of existence … and oh yes … murder most foul.

Stephan talks about the music:
This is a song of Peter's. My only contribution was the break down part to that song and some inconsequential chord changes to add another layer. This song sticks out for me for another reason. When we were practicing the song, it became clear to all of us that the repetition of the verse was going to be too much. It was one of those moments where I felt in a super clear state and about 10 ideas were tried in a span of 45 minutes or so - I kept dishing the ideas out to Peter's "Nah, nope, sucks, etc." Finally, this one stuck, even though I remember liking some earlier ideas. I simply let them go and went to the next one. It was Zen, a state of mind that is fleeting for me at the best of times.

Peter adds:
This was another song that was four chords repeated over and over. I really loved those four chords. I was resistant to any changes to this pattern because every addition seemed to break up the momentum of those four chords. I could just listen to them go on forever. However, Stephan's contribution to the song improved it greatly, which is always the case with my songs. I come up with a verse and a chorus and Stephan will add a bridge or even just a chord and it will make all the difference.

Your Philosophy

Ghosts walk the earth, awaiting their birth
Of what they can't be
A genius is born for heartache and scorn
Inside of me
And angels weep and float down the street
Saying, where do we go now?
3 million miles from home, where do we go now?
3 million miles from home, where do we go now?

(Chours)
There's more in Heaven and Earth
Than is dreamt in your philosophy

Yeah lovers are twisted and scarred
By what they dream
And Jesus is born into a world dark and torn
Inside of me
And voices plead turn it to my channel please
You're Jamming me
3 million miles from home, you're jamming me
3 million miles from home, you're jamming me

(Chorus)
There's more in Heaven and Earth
Than is dreamt in your philosophy
